Used to run a successful refugium in my sump but I have now run out of room,I have an ai refugium light and would like to set up something above my sump, looking for ideas rather than spending on a scrubber
I do have wasted space in the first chamber as I am not using filter Socks but cutting out the plate seems like it would be difficult in place

Some other refugium ideas:

Display refugium (high capacity)

Grid filter (low capacity)
Mangroves would look nice in here.

In DT with nori clips/suctions/tied (why?)

Livestock ideas:
Sea lettuce (fast grower, pods/herbivores love it)
Gutweed (Same as sea lettuce, once known as Enteromorpha)
Cladophora (pods love it)
Codium (shrimps enjoys grazing its surface)
Caulerpa paspaloides (better behaved than its relatives)
Bryopsis (if you dare... but it does provide nutrient export and looks nice)
Branching coralline (unusual)
Dragon's breath (stunning)
Gracilaria hayi (stunning)
Botryocladia (stunning)
Fauchea (stunning, rare)
Blue hypnea (unusual)
Padina (unusual)
Grass shrimp (for detritus)
Spaghetti (Mama mia) worms (for detritus)
Shoal grass (biodiversity home, will require dsb)
Red mangrove (unusual)
Ocean live sand (biodiversity)
Live mud (biodiversity)

and don't forget Chaetomorpha.

I have a reefer 170 and turned the stock ATO into the refugium. Sits right on top of the sump. I siliconed a piece of acrylic near the return end to divide it off and act as an overflow then drilled it out put a bulkhead in it and the water dumps right into the return pump chamber. Bought a Newa pump off BRS to feed it and plumbed it up with pvc so it has an elbow that discharges the water on the floor of the of the refugium causing the chaeto to spin then it flows over the piece of acrylic out the bulkhead into the return pump chamber. Not the best pic but......
