I'm looking to order an RODI unit this week and finally stop lugging all the Walmart pink cap 1gal jugs each month.

My town seems to have high TDS based off this water report (correct me if I am wrong in anyway)

I've been browsing the ' less than 100gpd ' units as even that will be way more than I will ever need in a day, let alone a week. My Question is will a small entry level 4 stage unit be enough for my towns water? example here..

Or give me your recommendation on a basic low producing RODI I could purchase (4 or 5 stage). Also needs to be able to hook up under sink or directly to sink faucet, I would prefer under sink though..

Thanks in advance,

Christian

The more important question is does your water supply use chlorine or chloramine to treat the water. I’d give them a call and find out. If they ever use chloramine, even if just once per year, you’ll want the 5 or 6 stage unit. If it’s just chlorine, then the 4 stage is fine. Your TDS isn’t really that bad. Well water is probably five times that much. I like the deluxe unit because of the pressure gauge and in-line TDS meter.

They said they switched to "chloramines residual" in 2006, so sounds like I will need a 5 stage at least? Is a 6 stage overkill since I am not on full blown well water?

Nope. The 6 stage has an extra carbon block, right? You’ll need that to adsorb the chloramine, and will save you in DI resin consumption.

A 5 stage should be fine. A 4 stage wouldn't be ideal due to the ammoniums in your water. I use the water saver personally. I can make about 40 gallons in about 3 hours. The 100 gallon per day units will only make about 20 - 30 gallons of RODI in a day. The per day rating is how much water it processes.

I use maybe 10 gallons a week tops so that would be plenty either way. I will check out the water saver as well looks like this one here? - https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/5-stage-premium-100-gpd-ro-di-system-bulk-reef-supply-bundle.html

You can always upgrade later. That's what I did. Making 10 gallons a week will equate to about 30 gallons down the drain. Your waste water would be really good for plants by the way.
