Hey Guys,

So I'm going for ich free in my 20 and 40 gallon tanks. (Almost done doing so to both).

I have a 75 with a small yellow and a melanarus wrasse. They are both fat and the tank is really healthy - no signs of ich and their nice and fat.

Should i risk putting these guys in 20g hospital tanks for 6 weeks and go ich free? Or will the possible stress of transfer possibly to risky?

What would you do? I really dont wanna hurt healthy fish in attempt to make things better

Are you planning on adding anything sensitive to ich or other parasites to this tank? I know a few people keep only (or mostly) wrasses and they dont quarantine their wrasses for ich. Usually they just treat with prazipro since wrasses are prone to flukes and pretty resistant to ich and other diseases. Their thick slime coats really help with that. As long as you only keep fish that are resistant naturally then I dont see a reason to go through that unless you have to. Of course you have to make sure you dont cross contaminate your other tanks with this one. Make sure to use different tools with this tank than the others and dont put your arm in there then put it in your "clean" tanks.

I'm not 100% sure what is going in next. But are there any species I should for sure avoid if I go this route? Will UV sterilization be a better route or do you see them as having downsides?

thanks for the reply

Tangs, angels, butterflies, clowns, rabbitfish, all get ich pretty easy.

An easy and fast alternative to just dumping them in, would be tank transfer. In twelve days you will know they are ich free and can go right into whatever tank you want. Buy a small bag of sand and a couple deli containers so they have somewhere to sleep. Toss the sand you use each time but you can alternate the containers with the other equipment.
