For the people that have been keeping reef in there homes and rooms my question is ? Is it bad for my new born son to be around my tank when the feeder lid is open and I'm asking because my mother in law told my wife that the smell of algae and other stuff that comes out is not good for the baby? So please let me know any info u guys have and I have to have my feeder lip open because it's a nano and if not it gets to hott

Not sure the only thing i can say is i had my tank when my daughter was born 7 years ago and hav one due in jan i hav no concerns question would u take ur new born to the beach if u get my drift hope this help this is my apinion [emoji106][emoji111]

I highly doubt that the smell would damage or harm a baby

Not at all,the biggest danger would be not baby proofing the stand once baby is crawling. They will be crawling before you know it.
I don't however keep plays due to the toxicity and ability to send it air born if fragged. Just my choice. I have a 180 reef open top with 75 gallon open sump and 30 gallon open refugium and 40 breeder coral qt.and 15 gallon fish qt. And were al healthy Fwiw.

What about all the babies that live at coastal city's...................... they basically eat, breath, and sleep sea air with all the smell in it.
I live in Houston and we all know it's a dirty city but when I go to the beach house I just love the smell and feel all happy again being there just for a few hours, falling a sleep on the porch is my favorite around this time.

Good point, the only other concern is that everthing in reach goes in the mouth. So during water testing and changes keep them away as the denitifying bacteria and or testing chemicals would be of concern.
Also when my babies are upset the quickest way to calm them is to sit in front of the tank and they immediately relax.[emoji3]

Thanks guys this makes me feel
A lot safer and for sure letting my
Mother in law know

Get a bottle of something that looks Serious to put in the tank to insure there are no problemsa because it was reccomended by experts.
And keep the kids on. ;)

Well people eat algae, and the smell from what cleaning the skimmer cup. People have tanks setup in their bedroom so no just make sure all chemicals and test kits are put away. maybe latches on the stand doors and be sure the tank and stand can not be tipped. Enjoy your tank and your child.
