So my new 40 gallon breeder tank that I’ve recently been cycling for 20 days now fritz turbo was the added at the beginning along with a starter fish after my ammonia and nitrite spikes nitrates are now present I did a vacuum and 10% water change nitrites are now zero nitrates are still present around 10 to 15 but ammonia is still also present .1-.2! I bought an extra filter for my aqua clear the ammonia remover bags( pictures below) is this a good idea I’m not messing up the cycle? I’ve been told on my build thread that it’s done and my spikes did occur and go down just the ammonia still has a presence.

My personal opinion is they filter stuff you got is unnecessary. Once your tank is cycled, ammonia is a non-issue.

My advice here, take your ammonia test kit and throw it in the garbage. If you have Nitrate in your tank, you have the bacterial colonies you need . Ammonia at this point is a non-issue.

I personally have not used an ammonia test of any kind on any tank in over 30 years.

After 20 days, and you have had nitrite and nitrate show up and there is a test fish, I would say you are ready to go. Just take it slow and only add one or two fish at a time so your bacterial colonies have time to grow to meet the additional bioload.
