I was recommended this site by a good friend of mine. He said there are a lot of experts here who could provide some good advice.

So here is my situation..

I noticed a few days ago the pressboard stand my 36 gallon bowfront aquarium was on was cracking and beginning to sag in the middle!

I watched it for a few days and it was warping about 1/8 an inch each day. I was in desperate need of a stand I didnt think it woulf last much longer on the one I have. I heard a loud popping noise a couple times and that was it! It was a cheap stand which was bigger than my tank was. I should have seen it coming..

I rushed to get a new stand. It is made of wood and seemed very sturdy. When testing it all seemed level.. I took everything out of the tank to move it..

But then.. I had no other tank to hold the fish in! I figured it would be a quick job so a bucket would do fine. With the tank empty and the fish in a bucket i put the tank on the new stand only to find out one corner wasnt touching! Only the width of a credit card (maybe slightly bigger, barely) space in between the tank and stand!

It was pretty late at night and next day was a Sunday here in Utah (City mostly shuts down lol) i didnt know what to do..

I decided to take a piece of press board the same size as the tank, put that on the stand and put the tank on the board. It is a rimmed glass aquarium i figured it would be fine.

I had to get the fish back in and after filling it there was still a gap but now it was between the press board and the stand. The aquarium os touching the press board all the way around.

I decided to put a thin piece of press board as a "shim" under the corner so it would be touching all four sides. All corners touch on the pressboard and stand, aquarium is flush on the pressboard. There is now a gap along the side and back between the board and stand instead of the corner.

Is this safe? What can i do to fix this? I think the board on the stand is slighrly warped. Will tge shim cause more harm than good?

Ive had tanks for a couple years but never a problem with the stand.. I will post pics please let me know if this will cause peoblems or what i should do! I really appriciate it. Let me know if you need additional info!! Thank you! I dont want to loose the tank -_-

Ohhh man I'm sorry to hear that this kinda of problem has happened to your already setup system!! IMO that gap will only get worst in due time as you stated that the gap is "Warping" 1/8" a day?? I would buy a Tote that can hold the volume of water, livestock, and rock then attempt to fix the problem before disaster happens and will end up causing the biggest headache we all FEAR!! Sorry again about this horrible news this has happened to me in the past that's why now I use steal stands and or before using wood stands paint with an epoxy paint to protect the wood better!! Good luck on this!! Hope all turns out ok!!

If the tank is supported by a flag piece even if out if level you are fine. Even tough plenty of people will argue a unlevel tank is an issue it's not. It's pressure points. So i personally think you are fine with your shim.

The shim Is fixing a problem that my well get worse. Pressboard absorbs water and delaminates into wood chips and disaster. I would buy a new stand ASAP or find a sturdy one used on CL or somewhere.

+1. I would work on getting a new stand that is a permanent fix.
