So I posted in a forum a couple days ago trying to figure out what this coral was (first pic) and a couple people said they thought it was a Kenya tree. They don’t pulse like xenias either.

then I went and picked this up today (second coral) and it looks like a Kenya tree to me. Could somebody shed some insight on this ?

thanks

Not sure what that is.. there are xenia's that don't pulse I believe.. I had something that looked like that when I first started out.. fortunately it died or it probably would've taken over.

Your tank looks pretty new too.. I'd play it safe and would keep it in the sand until you figure out exactly what it is and how fast it grows. The last thing you want is to find out you have something that grows like a weed and can quickly take over prime real estate in the tank.. some corals, xenia especially, are almost impossible to eradicate without removing rocks and cutting it out.

Best of luck!

looks like kenya tree they normally look like that when shedding or closed

here’s a picture of the one i used to have also they can become a pest coral

I think the first picture looks a lot like Xenias but as another poster mentioned, there are Xenias that do not pulse. The second and third pictures are definitely Kenya trees.
Be warned, they grow fast and then they will begin to shed their branches which attach to whatever they land on. I’ve learned this from personal experience lol. The little ones easy enough to pull out if you decide you don’t want them popping up all over.

Thanks, yea I’ll probably keep an eye on them and see how it goes. This tank is pretty new though so hopefully it all goes well. Thanks again !

You picked some pretty resilient starter corals, so I have faith! Xenias were described to me as a good “canary in the coal mine” type coral and I would say that Kenya trees are similar. They’re good indicator corals for how other corals might do.
Best of luck!! Keep posting pics!

Hey thanks! Yea so I’m about to just let it grow and get rid of pieces as I need too. I’m going to have to do a time lapse since everyone says they grow really quick

Thanks. Yea they seem to be comfortable in there. I like the whole “takeover” look as long as I keep it under control it should be good .

thanks !
