Hey R2R, So I've been having issues with lighting a few months back I picked up an sps frag and split it in 2. one to the bottom of the tank the other uptop what do you guys think? the top one looks a bit bleached but it's grown alot? I have an LPS tank but some things look ...bland trying to lower whites up blues

tank is simple ac50 packed with polyfiber/carbon, bh1000 hob,oc revive lights almost 2 years in january. still learning/failing. This is the first time I'm not looking at a algae infested tank for 3 months now fingers crossed keep those numbers down now that I can read them! Even got purple aglae!
also wat kind of sps is that? thx for bearing with me

As for what type I would say a bonsai acro. The one up top looks ok to me, could just be getting used to the light, if color keeps fading lower your intensity some until it can acclimate.

The torch next to the bottom sps is the first piece I've added in about a year and one head melted overnight after I had acclimated. moving it into its current spot right next to the gold torch (this coral is a constant battle) and the yellow tipped to the left has made 12 heads out of one in a year.

na yea my rock work is the result of a monkey throwing rocks (not even stacking) not my department

The top one is clearly thriving more than the bottom one. It’s not bleached. The bottom one is just receiving so much less light that it is overpopulated with zooxanthellae to try and capture more light for its biological functions. Making it much darker and browner in appearance. Also know that overproduction of zooxanthellae will drastically slow down skeletal growth. As you can observe in your experiment as well.

I suspect the top specimen is getting more flow also. All in all conditions for excellent growth and health are more ideal where the top one is placed

wow thxs so much I was wondering why so dark on the bottom one but the top seems to be encrusting rather quickly. I really need a par meter it's so hard to guesstimate what happened to this head of indo gold and the other looks atrocious guess I should be happy one survived at 60 bucks for this tiny frag...
