My nitrates are at 7-10 I can’t seem to get them lower. I have two cyano spots on my rock that are seeming to get larger. All other levels are within reason. .

4- t5s. 24inch 24 watt.. 3-actinic royal blues and 1- 10000k daylight. Was also running MH 175-12k. Only running lights 8 hours.. 1-2 hours MH. All t5s for 3. And 2 royal blue for 8hrs.. recently shut off MH cause I’m thinking I have to much light..

Ditch those sponges and the uncoverd rocks and whatever is in there. It’s holding stuff that makes no3 , organics.
OR. Use small amounts of carbon dosing and use those things to hold bacteria and break down the organics.
IMO. It’s just new tank uglies and not really something to worry about.
Keep blowing it off and grab some bacteria. Dr Tim’s one and only or waste away. Also might consider MB7. MB7 and waste away both contain an organic carbon source to fuel the growth of good bacteria.
But , just like carbon dosing , you may see an increase in cyano temporarily as the bio filter comes up to speed.

just run a skimmer in there?? I was told the marine bio pure block hold lots of good bacteria

Keep the skimmer.

Your blocks or sponges are full of poo and food. Eventually the bacteria will colonize it and break them down.
But before that happens the no3 will rise.
Your numbers are not bad at all.
But IMO that’s where they are coming from right now.

It’s new tank uglies.

Couple snails. Hermits .. turbo. Purple dottyback. 2 clowns and a wheeler goby. . Doesn’t seem like that much bioload does it?

It’s the food you put in.
It piles up no mater if it’s a small pile or big one , and the bacteria need time to grow. The bio filter ramping up, or maturing is how it’s usually termed.

Thus the reccomend for slow additions to the bio load. Esp at first.

I also change sponge once a week idk how much that really helps now that I seen brs study on filter socks
