Helping a friend redo his plumbing on his tank and noticed a few of these in his sump. They are small, move relatively fast, compared to pods, and seem to either eat the algae on the glass of the sump or just leave a trail in it. I watched them for a bit and they seem to go around the pods on the glass as well. I tried to get one out to look at it under a magnifying glass and it was like it melted. Tried to dig through google, looked at the list of hitchhikers here and couldn’t find anything that looked like them. Granted I cannot get one out to look at its “back” so to speak. Ohh, he also has some Xenia in the fuge and a few Acro frags from thinning out a colony in a section of his sump and they are not on any of them.
I did inspect all of his corals and did not see a one on any of them, or anything at all. All corals in his tank are happy, growing and look good, so it seems they aren’t bothering them or have not made it to the DT yet. Nothing added in last 2 months and all corals go through 4 dips during an 80 day QT due to him having some pricy tangs and acros. I also checked his qt tank and sump for them and did not find any in it or on the corals he has in there either.
Just need to know if they are good or bad and if bad, what will take care of them if they are not a common critter I can research. They have us stumped lol.
Thanks in advance.
Spirorbids above the critter and pods below (size reference). Critter is almost dead center of pic.
Zoomed in some with critter in center of the pic with pods around it for size reference. As you can see there is a trail in the algae below the critter where it moved up. The “points” are what appears to be the rear, unless it moves rear first.
