So I made some Rasta frags and offered them up for trade in our local Facebook group. A guy in another town over has a very old established reef, and offered a cutting of what he called "Orange Sea Mat"
The owner said he met a guy who had a rock farm off the coast of Florida, and some of this by chance grew onto it. He contacted the government, and was told he was not allowed to sell it, but he could give away as much as he pleased. Which is how the guy I met acquired his a decade or more ago.
From what I have found it's a form of Paly, and is endangered. They say they like high lighting, but his was thriving in the shade, I have mine semi shaded on the sand bed, b/c I read they can "Crawl" across sand as they grow.
Can anyone give me a specific ID, so I can read more on it?
The coral itself while in shock from the cutting, is finally opening up. I was kinda excited about it, so I didn't wait till it fully opened to snap a pic to show it off. I am also including a pic of the "Mother"
