need some help with green hair alagee

i have been fighting this crap and i cant seem to get rid of it i do water changes as i pull it off the rock. i have put snails in and a foxface and i have pulled all the rock out 3 times and scrubbed it with a tooth brush and it still just comes back i am coming close to just give up on this tank please any suggestions would be helpfull

Have you tested the water you are using for water changes?

yes i also take a water sample to my lfs and have them test for everything they say it was good

To be blunt if your feeding your fox face it ain't gonna eat the algae.
Also dim your lights as its photosensitive will slow/decrease growth.

If what I've said is rubbish I'm sorry but what I think.

The fox face does nibble on it but not as much as I thought I feed all the fish once a day with a half a cube in fact he is eating it now as I'm typing

Are you running any type of refugium? I had to outcompete the hair algae with red dragon/chaeto and that finally did the trick, once the other macros took off the snails and tweezers could manage the hair algae. It also took me a few months to get the tank to good params and balanced feedings.

I'd add some red dragon macro as it grows faster than chaeto, not to be confused w dragons breath:
How olds the rock? Sand?
Running a skimmer? When did u last clean the skimmer? Impellers on ur power heads? What are you feeding? How often? How many fish and how much time did u leave between each addition?
Etc.

I clean the skimmer every week here lately I have been cleaning power heads every week also because they seem to get full of the algee as pull the stuff of the rock I feed half a cub of frozen Bryn shrimp with clove and vitamins every day the rock and sand have been in their since September when I started the cycle and the fish were added about 2 to 3 weeks a part

It is usually a excess nutrient issue. What are your phosphate and nitrate levels?

When was the last time you changed your lights? If everything else tests fine it could be the lights need to be changed.

Both are 0 as of last week I'll check them today the lights are about new

I battled with it for a long time and I still have a little patch clinging to my Candy Cane coral.

I tried just about everything: 3 days of darkness (wrapped my tank in towels and left the light off) - didn't really do much.
Sea Hares- of the four I bought, only one lasted long enough to put a dent in the algae population!
Vodka Dosing- I wasn't consistent enough with it so it didn't really work.
GFO- I'm running a BRS reactor with carbon and GFO. I'd like to think this is helping.
Feeding- I've gone minimalist here. Just a few pellets a day for my fishes. Coral food very seldom.

What really wiped it out for me was rotating the affected rocks through my sump. I would exchange a few algae rocks up top for clean rocks in my sump. Took months, but it finally worked!!

Not possible, unless you have Bryopsis and not Hair Algae. What test kit are you using? Your phospahtes should read .05-.03 and Nitrates under 30, far less if you have corals. If you have Bryopsis, then we are talking a totally different ball game with treatments.
