Hey. I need to pick the brains of everyone to decide how to move forward with my return pumps. I used to have a single fluval sp6 with 1.25 single line to the tank that then split into two 3/4 lines and end in loc line fan nozzles. The sump is in the basement with approximately 9 feet of head but there are 90s and such.
I wanted to add redundancy so I added two 20amp GFCI circuits at my sump, 2 eb832s, and two fluval sp4s. I plumbed the sp4s using check valves up to the single 1.25 pipe. (Check valves only used to prevent one pump from pumping through the other in a failure event). This decreased my flow substantially from the sp6 but added more wattage draw and heat into the tank.
I just recently added random flow nozzles which reduced my flow even more!
I need to get my flow back up. It's officially too slow.
Options:
1. Replace the sp4s with 2 sp6s (this will add too much flow and too much heat). I can add code to only have one pump run and the other turn on If the first one stops running to mitigate this.
2. Replace one sp4 with an sp6. So then I am running one of each. It's a little more heat but should be alot more movement.
3. Replace the fluvals with jebao dcp10000s. Less wattage draw unknown flow or reliability.
It's worth noting I have 3 sp4s and 3 sp6s on hand.
