Hello to all,

I have a 150 gallon tank that i plan on setting up in the next couple of weeks. I have orderd my live rock and sand just waiting for them to get delivered. What is a good website to order my fish from or a local store? I live in the near pittsburgh, pa and this time of year it is a little cold for fish to be outside wating for me to get home from work.I would like to get colorful fish since i am a 7 month old son and the colors will catch his eye.

thanks for the help

Rob

Can't go wrong with ordering from Liveaquaria.com

If you're in Monaca, Aqua World is down the river on Rt. 65 (8143 Ohio River Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15202). I've never bought fish there, but they always seemed to have a decent variety the times I've been there.

Another place close is Dave's Aquastock (2301 Duss Ave. Ambridge, PA. 15003). I've never been there, but have heard good things.

If you do decide to order online, you can have the shipment held at the shipping facility and pick it up after work. This is what I do when I can't be home to receive the shipment. I sometimes get the shipment delivered to my work.

Just as a word of advice. Take some time to decide what you want in the tank long-term. Make a stocking list. Figure out what is compatible with what and when each species needs to be introduced to avoid conflict. Purchase only after you have decided what is to be in the tank and when. Avoid buying fish on impulse especially from local stores since they have the least selection and are the ones most prone to having ich. But if you do like a local store, many of them will order specific fish for you so you are not just picking from what they have in stock. And hopefully you are quarantining the fish for at least 4 weeks before putting them in the DT.

I have ordered from LiveAquaria and was very pleased. I did have 2 of the fish die and they credited me the full price no questions asked. They ship and pack very well in individual bags inside a strong foam container.

Make sure you drip acclimate ALL new tank inhabitants!

Bubba, I am right down the road from you in Center. I would second the recommendation of Daves Aquastock, he is right across the river in Ambridge. Dave helped me a ton with finding live/dry rock that would work in my 20g nano as well as advice, he is saltwater only. Whatever he can't get he can order.

I just picked up 2 ocellaris clown's off of him on Sunday

Get a ton of compliments on them being a pretty looking pair ;)

We deal with Aquaworld for our freshwater stuff but it can get busy in there and I prefer the one on one attention at a smaller store, especially when I am so new to the marine game.

Thanks I will have to check out Dave's. I am from Baden originally so I have seen it just never went it to check it out.

Daves is in a really nondescript location, we wondered if we were in the right place the first time we went over. Only sign he has is on his door glass I believe. If you find the building with the leasing office sign on the front of it, you are in the right place.

He is only open Wed-Sunday but well worth the trip.
