I am thinking about putting my tank a foot and a half from the wall. This way I can get behind if need be. The problem is I have a cat that like to mess with everything. I plan on making a nice blocker from the stand to the wall.
So how far away did you guys put ur tank from the wall and would u do anything differently in ur placement cause as u know once water is in the tank isn't going anywhere .

Thanks justin

The only reason I would want to get behind my tank is to get to the power outlet. I cut a square out of the back of the stand so I can access it from the front. So mine tank is right around 3 inches from the wall and it works well for me. All my plumbing goes in from the bottom so that isn't an issue for me, either.
If I didn't run a sump, or had piping up the back of the tank, I could easily see wanting more room up the back but hard to say how much.

Well the girl wants the wall to be cleaned every once in a while as well being painted tomorrow happy wife u know happy fish tank. So I'm just going to put it out a foot I think that should be good enough I hope.
Hey ur an electrician right or smarter then me what's the difference between 12-2 wire and 12-3 wire in terms of amps.

lol There is no difference in terms of amps, only in application. The 12 tells you the diameter of the wire which gives you its current capacity.

So if it was u what would u use brew? 2-3?

For wiring an aquarium outlet I would use 12-2 with a ground. Typically you only need the 12-3 for wiring 3 way switches.
