Ok so I am new to this reef game. I like to build a lot of my own stuff, not sure why. So I made a siphon vacuum with a ball valve. I have a large end for the sand to stir up in with some filter floss stuffed in to capture particles before it dumps back into my sump. It worked great except for the sand dust that just blew through the tank with minutes. So back to the drawing board on this. My thought is if I run a powerhead to suck the water through the vacuum end and then exit the pump through a sediment filter like for a RO unit, you think it would filter out the fine particles? I am trying to get the green algea off the sand without going crazy with water changes. It is a 220 gallon tank. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
