Need some input on sump changes - frag rack install

I was toying with the idea, of getting rid of some of this cheato and installing a small frag rack. The cheato completely fills, the center section of my sump. I really don't have the space, for a small frag tank and it would have to be it's own system. I also have no room, to connect to the main display.

My thinking is, to get some PVC for the legs and build the rack up, closer to the light, leaving some cheato, under the rack.

Need some opinions. Would you or wouldn't you?

Divide the sump area with egg crate allowing enough room for the cheating to turn and build a small frag stand in the open divide area.
