Monkey wrench. My friend is leaving the country for 6 months. He has a 180 that I need to setup asap in my basement. My salt station isn't done and I just used my mixed water last night curing rock what is a quick way to get this all setup?

Totes with his tank water & power heads? 6 fish. It wasn't suppose to be until 6 weeks but of course Murphy showed up

I've got power heads and all his filtration

I would pick up some biospira and add it before you add the fish. What type of fish are you adding also get your salinity to match what he is using. As for filling the tank it would be quickest to get saltwater from LFS so you don't have to make it but if that is not an option start making rodi water and when a bucket is done mix in salt by hand(which is what I do) . then pour into tank and repeat! make sure to fun power heads as you fill will help with mixing in the salt. Also see if he has any media from the tank you can use as benneficial bacteria to help kickstart the system as well as the biospira :)

Its his complete setup. 1.024 -1.026 he's checking now.

Scopas tang, foxface, clown , chromis, & damsels

So are you able to keep his water? if so get a couple buckets with some airstones put fish in those while you relocate his setup.

I don't know how. I have big totes but water weighs a lot. I think I'm going to have to throw up a 40b use a few buckets of his water then drip acclimate with store bought sea water.

Rushing is not good. Someone probably isn't going to make it

Yes rushing is not good but so is putting that many fish in a small tank with no biomedia to help keep the tank stabilized. I would try to keep everything you can water and rocks/biomedia and toss out the sand. If you can put the totes in your car thenfill them that may work.

Actually - you should be fine - assuming you keep the filter/rock, etc wet. I would try to use as much of 'his water' as you can. You can also get some 'Fritzzyme 9000' - which I think works somewhat better than biospira - but - depending on how quickly you can make the transfer its not much different than moving fish from an LFS to your home tank (where you're taking a bag of water - and adding it to yours.). The mistake would be (IME) setting up the tank while the fish are in totes for days - which is more stressful. Just make sure you have good quality water - and match the parameters to the water in his tank. It will go fine. Note - depending on the salt you're using - you should aerate and mix it per the instructions.

I have everything of his all media, 200lbs of love rock, and all the sand. I just don't have 180 gallons of saltwater ready which is going to take a few days. My tank wasn't even setup.

All I have is enough water for a 40b, 20, & the rest of the live rock in a brute.

I would do a van with as many covered 5g buckets of water as possible

I got the biggest tote possible, 40g brute, & 6-7 buckets including ones with fish.

Best a dude can do for a night. Fish seem to be doing well and marinating the rest of the live rock. Fox face almost nailed me putting the heater in. Just enough water to fill the breeder and tote.

50% his old water + 50% new water is a good formula

Go to Walmart and buy a bunch of big totes

Once you're done with them and DIDN'T scratch them, THOROUGHLY clean them and return them with your receipt

I have no problem with "free rental" of items as long as they go back in the same brand new
quality. Everyone will be none the wiser.

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA - its clear you don't own a business. This is not only immoral - its probably illegal. Right?

What's immoral and illegal is Walmart selling you a tote for $8 when they bought it from China for 57cents.

I prob drop $2k in Walmart a year. I think they can afford a onetime return.

While ignoring your insult - There is nothing 'illegal' if Walmart buys a tote for a penny and sells it for $8. I would also guess that if totes were available for 57cents - that other merchants would sell them for less than 8$. And lastly - https://www.thestreet.com/story/12793834/1/worn-and-returned-truth-about-wardrobing.html

Is It Legal?
Wardrobing might sound like an innocent thing to do—after all, many of us have returned something we've already worn at least once in our lives. But the truth is that wardrobing is actually considered "return fraud." "It's technically illegal, but the problem is there aren't any real [legal] consequences," says Prabhakar. "And it's difficult to tell if someone has only worn a garment once."

How It's Hurting Retailers

According to the National Retail Federation's 2012 Return Fraud Survey, which was completed by loss prevention executives at 60 retail companies, nearly two-thirds (64.9%) of retailers said they were victims of wardrobing last year.
The survey also found that wardrobing and other forms of return fraud, including returning stolen merchandise and using counterfeit receipts, caused the retail industry to lose an estimated $8.9 billion last year.

Just hit the report button, no need to derail the thread with arguing back and forth.
