Hello Reef2Reefers! So I really hope this doesn't confuse anyone because this is kind of a crazy design I came up with in my head. So let’s get to the story! I currently have a 120 gallon Marineland RR that is 4x2x2. I'm in the process of building a new stand / fish room. The stand is 8ft long by 2 1/2ft wide, my vision is to have my 120 on the right side of the stand and then a 40 breeder frag tank on the left, there is about a foot in-between the tanks to allow proper maintenance and to be able to see it a bit. So the other stand I'm building that is going to be behind the 8ft stand on the other side of the wall, going to be my new fish room its the furnace room now it’s an unfinished basement right now so can go through the drywall ;), is going to be a 6ft long stand by 2ft wide. I’m going to have my Trigger Systems Emerald 34 on the bottom of the stand and plumb in the 120 and 40 breeder into this. My main question with the sump there is only two 1inch holes for the drain. Would it be best to just tie the two drains into the one hole, and if so should I use 1 1/2 inch pipe and then reduce it to 1inch at the connection?, because also on the 6ft stand above the sump is going to be another 40 breeder which will be a backup frag tank and isolation tank if needed, then going to put one more 40 breeder above it that will serve as the refugium for the whole system. So basically going to have 3 40 breeders and a 120 all plumbed into that sump, will be able to spread out equipment a bit easier than having the sump under the 8ft stand and gives me all the room to make a really nice electronic board, and also house another 40 breeder inside the stand as a QT system that will be ran separately. I know this is a crazy idea just wondering how you would go about plumbing this all and for the overflows on the tanks in the fish room, is there a good way to just use a bulkhead or something don't want to have to buy overflow boxes for them since my current 40 breeder is already drilled with a glass-holes 700 GPH kit. Really want to figure out how to drill these two other tanks and if I should just have the top one overflow into the next one then that to the sump? Or use sanitary t's to plumb them straight down to the sump? Will have the stand made tomorrow and can post pictures so it isn't so confusing. Going to put a picture of the rough drawing though. Just ignore the right side this is where my RODI and SW storage will be and no tank on top was just a thought for the QT system

I personally wouldn't combine the drain lines. It will be a bear to get them running consistently. I think you can run one return line and a valve for each tank though.

Well I could run all separate lines but I would have to combine 2 tanks into one drain on the sump since there is only 2 drain ports so one port would have 2 40 breeders then the other would have the 120 and the 40 don't think that would be an issue? Can't drill and add more into the sump wonder if this will effect it at all?

Well every tank will just have one drain, not sure what that would be called? The reef ready 120 also only has one drain on it as well

Ok, not pulling a siphon. An open drain, right? You can get away with that but I'd size it bigger than you need to make sure you don't wind up with a flood.

Yea sir no siphon. Going to have one inch drains on them all figured if I tied them in go up to 1 1/2 inch or so then they have to get reduced to 1 at the sump

The smallest diameter downstream is the effective diameter you need to work with.
