Ok I have a 56 gallon column Reef tank. Right now I have 6 T-5HOs over it, its giving me good color but i feel its not giving the par raiting I need, I have 2 chalices on the bottom that are growing decently and a favia that is growing great but my SPS are slow at best atm, my water is fine, I do have 2 250w HQI Im thinking about removing them from there housing and "retrofitting" them to a wooden DIY canopy, the tanks dimensions are 30L"x18"Wx24"H would that amount of light be overkill? looking for advice on the lights and the canopy. should i go with what i have or should i go with the retrofit, if so heat concerns me.

One 250 watt MH bulb with a good reflector should be plenty. I had a 150 watt halide(cheap reflector) on a 29 gal and it was sufficient for sps. I would think the 6 t5's would be enough assuming you have quality bulbs in the fixture....
