So I just picked up this 65 gallon rimless tank I’m super excited about! The only issue is I didn’t look very hard at the plumbing when I got it.

It looks like the two drilled holes are both drains and then it has a hose that goes behind the stand over the top for a return.

Is this a good enough set up or will it be very noisy? Looks like the drains are kind of a durso style with a hole in the top.

Thanks! Also sorry tank is dirty, literally just picked it up

If were me, I would remove the drain pipes and cap the bulkheads, then I would drill the back for a Herbie drain system or bean animal drain system.

In review of your aquarium. I would personally do a Hang Over the back overflow. Then I would use one of those for a return and the other as in a closed loop. That way you would not need additional pumps in the aquarium. The closed loop one could be hidden by some rock work and would be real nice.

I'd love to do that except I already have the tank in my house and don't really want to take it to the lfs to get help with cutting the glass. Sounds like I might just be stuck with a loud system... maybe it will be worth it to take it out again

I have mp10s already so no reason for a closed loop system. Possibly order a nice hob overflow and use both as returns?

Yeah you could use both as returns with HOB overflow. Would be your cleanest look I think. Also you will have to worry about back siphon and design accordingly around the returns being as they are.

Im starting to think I should just plug them like @flippers4pups said and drill the back since the kits from BRS come with the drill bit. Is the eshopps kit pretty good?

That would be a viable option. Then you wont have to worry about the siphon issues etc. That can be scary.

So if I were to re-drill, what kit would you guys recommend I go with?

Very first thing I would do is make sure the back panel is not tempered. I would get a Modular Marine overflow box kit. That, or I would use a Modular Marine internal slim box, and add a DIY glass external box.

Do not use a synergy reef shadow. They are garbage and many people have had serious issues with them, including myself.

I recommend EMS. I used them to replace the shadow on my new build. The EMS works flawlessly and silently.

Thanks guys, went ahead and ordered a modular marine set up!
