Or if you don't want to cut the coral let it naturally split try and put a small net under the small colony to catch it when it does split completely off? Then glue to a small rubble rock!! No need to dip coral if it naturally splits!!
 
I had this happen to a favia as well. I waited until the baby had detached and then set it on a frag disc with a tiny drop of superglue. The baby grew slowely but eventually was big enough for me to trade to a friend.

Awesome dude! Mine just dropped finally and I pretty much did the same thing. After I took the picture I put it on a frag plug, I wish I had a small piece of rock but oh well a plug will do for now.
