Tried luring it with shrimp and that failed. Want to avoid destroying the aquascape. Any ideas on how to catch the little slighter? Currently trying a bottle trap

How big is your tank?

After 15yrs of reefing, the fastest method is to go up to Home Depot and buy a sheet of clear plexiglass.....also buy a knife specifically made to score the Plexiglass... so it can be handcut to size. Youtube "how to cut plexiglass" to learn.

The hand cut piece of plexiglass must fit inside your tank as a DIVIDER! Very important the plexiglass is snug on both vertical walls. Even a 1/4" gap the fish will find it and escape

Move any rockwork so either the extreme left or extreme right of the tank is 25% free open water. Absolutely no obstructions in this open area, 100% open water.

Have the plexiglass in the tank but like at an open angle. Open this plexiglass like a door.

Lure the fish into the open area by chasing it to that extreme left or extreme right side you chose.

Once the fish is in the open area with the plexiglass snug against all walls and no room for escape.... netting it is a B R E E Z E.

Bottle trap is the best approach. Either check it very frequently, put ventilation holes in it, or both.

Is something wrong with it?

nothing wrong with the fish (real fat and healthy) just pumping sand and detris all over the tank...

is it a bad idea to just take the opportunity to change the aquascape? I.e Take eh corals and rocks out and just snag the guy?

If you want to catch a fish removing the net obstructions is a great idea.

The simple way if you have a small tank is to siphon all the water out, pick the fish off the bottom and refill with the water you just took out.

Edit: Never mind then. YOu can leave the rock and water alone! :)
