My YT has turned into Ted Bundy so I need to remove him asap. Tried for 3 hrs last night and had no luck. Any of the DIY fish traps that will work for a Tang?

Light out in the middle of the night. My tangs usually sleep in the same spot. That's how I have netted them in the past.
Funny thing is I can probably but algea sheets in a net and they will go in to get it.
Also saw mile high reefr on YouTube use a trap in a 270 I think with success.

Yikes, looks like they need to reinvent old sparky then. I was hoping Ted bundy would never come back. Nobody suspected he would come back As a salt water fish. Guess it makes sense because he terrorized the land, now it’s the water. Well we can try old sparky again and electrify the tank! ( I am Totally kidding on this (please don’t take me seriously on using that to catch him). Now more serious I had a very mean tang also, I used a fish trap. He was the largest and always first for food. So I put all the food in the trap and caught him in minutes. I did catch small fish also, but once I removed the trap I put them into a large bucket full of water and put the two clowns back in. I feed in only one section so put the trap there. Also be careful when you pull it out, don’t accidentally open the trap door.
My local fish store loans them out, not sure if yours will or sells them, but using a net normally won’t work. It’s should be a clear device.

Yeah he's proven to be kind of smart, his home unfortunately is right between 2 rocks and I attempted putting a bag over a base with a small hole and some mysis but no luck

I have used chicken wire with great success. It’s cheap, it’s flexible and can stop most fish. Cut it into pieces slightly wider than your tank and slowly shrink the containment area until you can get the fish into a corner where they can easily be captured with a net. I use multiple pieces in case they escape the containment area you don’t have to start over plus it’s easier to shrink the area when you don’t have to move a piece and risk he fish escaping.

Just caught mine not even ten minutes ago - been trying for almost 10 days!

I used an aqua medic trap to catch a White Tailed Bristletooth that was a nightmare in my tank. I put Nori rubber banded to a rock in there and went to get a beer while I waited. While I was in the other room, he had already gone into the trap happily munching away.

Tangs are bold enough that they can be trapped fairly easily.

Fish trap is a fantastic investment. I just feed them with a turkey baster blasting food into the trap with the door open tied to a fishing line. When the fish get comfortable in 1-30 days and go all the way in to eat — slam that door shut!

Nori works well tangs will do anything for nori

I was able to rent a aquamedic trap but unfortunately had to go to a family lunch so I'm hoping he doesn't go on a spree when I'm gone. I'll update when I catch him

Okay, so as stupid as this makes me sound and feel, I have figured out how to message people, reply, and read posts. But for the love of cupcakes how in the heck does one make their own post or thread? Good grief either I’m super blind or this online forum is way past my brain knowledge.

Go to the forum you wish to post a thread in. On the top right under the banner and search bar is a button "Post new thread" :)

After a solid 2 hours the closest he's been to the trap is near the front but never fully in. He just seems more intent on killing then eating

Well you could name him Ted bundy jr! You could start putting nori, or food in there more, and no where else. He will eat once he gets hungry enough. The problem is, it’s a waiting game and most of us don’t have 24 hours to just sit in front of our tank and go, “Okay serial killer, go to your cell now!” As relaxing as it is to watch my tank, I can’t for that long.

Fish traps are great. If the tang is hanging at the opening it's only a matter of time ! The finned Fiend will enter soon ! I'm in the process of trapping a Yellow demon tang. It takes a while but will work every time, Almost.
