I have tried (unsuccessfully) over the past few months to get a BTA off of a rock and sold. I have tried to use a powerhead, ice cubes, hanging method and almost everything out there. Just today I considered getting a mallet and breaking apart the rock. Will this injure or stress the nem? Not overly concerned bout the rock. Are there any other successful methods of getting it off the rock?

This method will not stress the nem, just try to keep time out of the water to a minimum, I’d say 10 minutes max. If it’s in a reachable area, I usually just use my fingernail to gently tease the edge of the foot up and slowly work the nem off the rock. Takes max 30 mins.

Patience...….it took a week and a half of constant flow before he got tired and detached. the trick is getting him out before he finds a new spot lol. break the rock but leave enough to not damage his foot. once you damage the foot its all over but the cryin…..

Will it injure the foot if you try to gently pry it off? It is in a pretty easy area to pry off.

Wow

you tried the hanging method with him outside the water and a bucket underneath?

I’ve never had a nem be able to fight that gravity. I also massage the foot around the edges suppppper gently with a finger every couple minutes

otherwise your plan seemsfine but I’d also get a chisel and start 2 inches away from the foot and work inward gently.

yep for a while and it still didn't come off...

no like footgal said take your time and be firm but gentle at the same time. my best advice (only had too deal with one) is too be patient and let the a constant flow cause it to move. Mine actually split as it moved, high flow can cause them stress which in turn can cause them to split. I gave them both to a friend who promptly managed to kill them....no more freebies to him.
