Hey guys. My tang went down into my overflow pipe. I have no idea how he got there but his tail is more or less severed. Just hanging on by piece of skin. What can i do for him?

Oh man, that made me cringe. Unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done for an injury so severe, even if the fish could survive the shock from the initial trauma infection would set in and ravage the body. Im sorry but the best you can do for this fish is to put him down. I don't have any personal experience with it but clove oil is supposed to be good for euthanasia. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Oh man... sad! Agreeing with you have to put him down .... if no clove oil, just place him in a zip lok plastic bag with some water and put in freezer... he'll just go to sleep.... sorry man!

Hate say this now, but you need to cover your overflows. Just saying.

How he even fit in there is a mystery. There is less than 1/4 inch space vertically for him to pass. :(
I'll look into a way of blocking up around the pipe entrances with egg crate.

man this makes me feel to never get another fish again.. :( he was so happy swimming with my clowns, there were best buddies.
when I put him across in the frag tank when it just happened he was just lying against the glass looking at the clowns and the clowns in the other tank were pressed to the glass looking at him, makes me so sad:oops:

Thanks for all the advice guys

Try not to beat yourself up about it. It was a freak accident, and things like that happen. We have all had horrible things happen to our fishy friends, myself included, and the way I see it the best thing you can do for him now is try to prevent it from happening again as best as possible and caring for your other inhabitants the best you can. I work at a pet store and last year we had a small 8-10in jeweled moray eel. I was feeding everyone one day and didnt realize that the eel had gotten out of the tank and was on the floor. I was looking up at the higher tanks and stepped right on top of his head. I felt all kinds of profoundly disturbing crunching underneath my shoe and I nearly had a panic attack when I realized it was the eel. In the end he healed up fine after staying in seclusion for several days but I made certain to spoil that animal as much as an eel can be. Moral of the story: as much as we love our animals, sometimes stuff happens despite our best care, but all we can do is move on and add everything to our knowledge/skills.

Wow that ended up a lot longer than I intended!
