I'm setting up a second tank here in a few minutes. I have had rock in my sump for several months. can I transfer that to a fowl tank? and do I need to add bacteria? I will be adding fish to it immediately if that is doable?

If you've had that rock in an established tank, then its already seeded and you should be good to go. I would not add fish to it immediately though. Give it a day or so to check for ammonia. Although if you have a bottle of bacteria, it never hurts to add that and you easily would be able to add fish immedaitely. Though always keep checking ammonia levels either by testing or with an ammonia badge by seachem.

Hello, If you are going to add fish immediately, adding bacterial culture will contribute to the system settling faster. However, when using some bacterial cultures, a certain period of time is waited before adding fish.
If you have a waiting period, it will do the trick on rocks.

As long as it is seeded and pest free, it will benefit your tank. Addition of bacteria supplement will support existing bacteria

Tank size and fish addition is important info here. If you say put a nice piece of live rock in a 20 gallon tank you could immediately add 2 clownfish or equivalent imo. Adding bottled bacteria can only help, I love biospira, works very well.

Do you HAVE to put the fish in immediately? As in they are arriving today?

If thats the case move all the live rock into the tank now. Get it going and having things cycling while waiting for the fish to arrive, do a long drip, and then add some turbostart (bacteria) to help push the cycle forward.

Monitor the fish heavily over the course of the next few days after addition as well to look for any signs of stress or disease.
