i thought maybe i would get some imput on an idea i'm about to put into action. i have a 120 mainly sps around 6 years old that is doing great. attached to this is a 30gl cube that has many different looks over the years. at one point it was a frag tank, then a really pretty zoa tank, then a lps (mainly chalice and a few favia and such) and now pretty much just a holding tank for all sorts of coral. now i think i want to fill it with mangroves, algeas and some or the more rare zoas i have. the questions i have are- why shouldn't i? do you see any negative side affects to the 120 full of sps and around twenty chalice except for maybe too low nutrients? also the tank is lit with a four bulb tek with three blue + and one aquablue special. it seems to support my dragons toung but what about the mangrove? i have a five year old mangrove in the sump lit by a normal household screw in compact light. last question is if i do this should i remove the tree and cheato out of my sump area? maybe give room for other equip. or just leave it alone? thanks for any replys.

I can’t speak for the mangroves, I did hear that mangroves are more of a fad of macro algae though, but can speak with my experience with SPS conditions and Rare Zoas. When I set up my 90 gallon frag tank I went with over 200 Acro and LPS frags in preparation for my 320. I then came across a deal for a 20 pack of rare zoas. I bought them and placed im this tank. Half of them are doing well and splitting, some are not propagating and the really rare ones are shrived up so small I can see the with a magnifying glass as it looks like a speck of sand. In the past when I went with Zoas in a soft tank with a standard nutrient tank I had not problems. So to summarize I would not recommend rare zoas and SPS on the same system. I think you be better off setting up the Cube on its own. I’m hoping my will make a comeback enough so I can sell them and break even.

really these are zoas i have so i was going to add them, but the main concern is the mangroves and macros. if the zoas don't do well i'll just trade them off for more sps and chalice. also i do feed my chalice a few times a week so hopefully this will help with low nutrients.
