Needing guidance

Those actually work better than most give them credit. Look into an api kit. for no and Po. high numbers wont really hurt you, you just have to deal with them differently. Salinity is a big thing, so an auto top off is pretty important for coral.

Hope this makes you feel better. My tanks ugly stage... :(

I'm only 3 months in and I don't test ammonia or nitrite anymore. I very rarely test nitrate or phosphate. I have enough algae I never get anything but zero on them. I pretty much only test alk and calc but wouldn't if I didn't have coral. In fact, if I had a fowlr, at this point I wouldn't test anything except nitrate.

Just think, my new lights come in tomorrow then I can really get my slime and algae growing with gusto! :p

We aren't gonna try coral again ANYTIME SOON. we already murdered two. Not wantin to actually swim with the fishes with cement on our feet so we r just gonna stick with a FOWLR til we get some
Experience and more learning and understanding under our belts

Have you thought about testing your well water to make sure it isn't where your nutrients are coming from? If you're topping off with it, you may be adding the unwanteds a little at a time daily. This is only a thought, i'm no expert.

Will the test kit I'm using tell me this?? I know it tests fresh and saltwater.

your absolutely correct though. No and only a bit of Po Id guess, and silicates as well as fluoride..Its why the brown is probably Diatoms, randy actually doses that, to control green algaes.;)

it will only tell you what's listed. The big concern is metals, and chloramines. That I believe is usually only found in city water to keep pipes clean and bacteria free.

Hmmmmm any suggestion as to where I could get my well water tested???? All I know for sure is its soft water and tastes great LOL

Its actually probably fine. A used rodi unit might be one of the thing to put on the list.
I live in san diego. we have an algae in the tanks. So my shower will smell like algae OR bleach. An ro system may work as well because your not dealing with chloramines. I am by no means an expert on water. Rodi is used to insure no contaminants and rule out any.

Lowes and Home Depot do water tests, but I'm not sure what all there test show for results. A good test kit is a good start, since you're going to need it for the tank in the future.

We have a Culligan RO system(because my hubby was used to that when he lived in town and was on nasty city water, then got my kids to thinkin they couldn't drink anything else lol) but it only does 2 gallons at a time.
