Needing help!

Hello! I have the fluval evo 13.5 and unfortunately after having it for 3 months it has already gone through a GHA outbreak and now what I assume is Dinoflagellates. I have a mini protein skimmer, live rock and live sand. I sadly have lost my clown fish maybe due to the Dino? I purchased DinoX which hasn’t seemed to help, I blow the Dino off the rock and scrub with a toothbrush every other day and it looks terrible on the sand. I really don’t want to buy a UV sterilizer. Does this look like Dino to y’all or Cyano? Any advise is welcomed.. I am a beginner and I don’t want to give up during the aquariums ugly stage.

Welcome to Reef2reef. Likely you have both cyano and dino's. Especially with a Nitrate level of 0. Nitrate should be between 2-10ppm. Many people get dino's and cyano from 0 Nitrates. I am curious what your phosphate level is?

Also, don't give up, everyone has these issues at some time. Algae issues can be beat.

I would manually remove all I could and then do a water change and then use a little fritz algae clean out

Thank you for the advice! I’ll look into getting my nitrates up! And I have a phosphate test coming in the mail soon!

I think they asked because dinos can bloom after a massive kill off like using chemiclean.

Raise nutrients to 10/.1, stop dosing dinox that stuff is nasty and will release all the dino toxins at once, killing stuff (your clowns).

UV will help fast, if you dont want to go that route, it will take a little time.
