60 gallon cube, Herbie style overflow 3/4 return this will be my first tank with a sump so I need some pointers on a return pump. From the bottom of my sump to top of return will be roughly 60", when I start reading about head pressure my head starts spinning. I know the recommend turn over rate is 10x per hour but that just seems like alot to me.

Look at any of the DC return pumps that have multiple speeds. I use a Coral Box pump (from Reef Breeders... a sponsor here) and it's been great for me. I have a 90g tank with a 30g sump/fuge and the return pump manages a 900gph flow which is just a tiny bit short of the max I can flow through the weir of my overflow box.

Whatever brand you decide, buy two of them & either run dual returns, or keep the spare for when the primary unit fails. With all of the life support gear in the sump, it's a small price to pay for insurance. I've used Jebao return pumps with success for years. The DCP-6500 or 8000 would work.

As far as turnover rate, it's not so much to have that volume flowing through the sump as it is to cycle the water. I assume you will likewise have wavemaker(s) in your display, & those count toward the 10x recommendation.

Great job deciding on the Herbie sytle. It's silent, & you won't be disappointed. Are you routing the return line over the top or do you have a 3rd hole drilled in the glass?

IMO 10x is too much.
More like 4x to 6x the tank volume through the sump.
You could do a Vectra S2 and have a awesome quiet pump that would have a adjustable flow rate to fine tune the flow.
I have a Vectra M2 on my 66 gallon tank. I was going to go with the S2, but found a sweet deal on the M2 so I went with it.
