So I have a green bubble tip.

my clowns JUST started (hosting- being hostedby?) the nem about a week or so ago. Recently it doesn’t open as much since they started hanging in it. I also see them bite it softly, But I don’t seee any damage but think the nem is annoyed.

sidenote: wife keeps a ton of betta fish. A big blue one died and I fed it to the nem..( not sure if it’s good or bad?)

but within a few days nem changes from green to a more blue ish /purple color:

I wasn’t sure if the color was because it’s annoyed with clowns or the betta fish I fed it or a combination of both, but figured I would share.

After moving rbta’s from one tank to two other they changed different colors in both tanks. One got a purple tint and the others developed a green base. I wouldn’t feed the anemone anymore though, they don’t need chunks of food.
Just let them pick up what they will in the water when you feed your fish.

Ok. I have been feeding small pieces of krill once every other week. Feeding it the betta fish was a one time thing.. probably not the best idea lol.

thanks for sharing. This is my first bubble tip, never seen one change Colors before. I thought it was pretty cool. It’s not a huge color change but I can tell the difference.

This hobby is full of wonders! I see something new almost everyday-

happy reefing!

The clownfish biting the tips of the nem’s tentacles is normal hosting behavior. It helps the clownfish develop their immunity to the anemone’s sting. Also, the hosting clowns will feed their nem for you!

That’s awesome! This is first time I’ve had clowns host anything. Super fun to watch. Do you think nem will get use to it and open fully like before they were hanging in it?

Happy Reefing to you!
This guy in my 30 changed in a really cool way. They were all red bubble tips and here it is after a couple months in the small tank.

Yes, most likely. In your picture, the mouth looks like it’s gaping which isn’t generally a good sign. How long ago did you give it that betta? I’d be surprised if it would be able to digest that fully. Has it regurgitated the remains yet? How much light and flow is it getting? Is your tank fairly new or mature?

Same nem, couple months apart. Slight color difference. Then the last pic is a split from it in a different tank. Freaky!

Foot gal,
Was the third picture in a fairly new tank? I’m curious, as that is what my guys in the 30 look like.
first pic is them in my 90 the original tank
Second is the ones in my 75
Awesome creatures.

It’s pretty new, been up for 6 months but completely skipped the cycle since I used ‘dirty’ water and live rock that had been sumped for 10+ years to set it up. I didn’t put clean water in there until it was 2 months old. I set up all my tanks this way. Yes I have some aptasia, bristleworms, etc but I’d have em anyway because I don’t QT so it’s all good :). The tank with the mother nem is only 7 months old, set up with the exact same stuff

Wow! Good lookin’ nem! Thanks for sharing! Your also has bigger bubbles then mine lol. My bubbles look elongated compared to yours and the other one shared. Sometimes there looks like no bubbles.. could mine be something different? It was sold to me as a green bubble tip. But honestly doesn’t look the same as these posted here. (Color I get, but the shape of tentacles is a bit different)

Okay so people say not to feed them. To each their own but I feed my anemones very often, at least 2x a week. Pics don’t lie. I’ve got 4 different types of BTA and 5 BTA total. The only one I don’t feed (as an experiment) is the black widow (left of the RBTA in the double pic), and it doesn’t bubble. But when it splits I feed the babies and they bubble. I’ve got a Chicago Sunburst, RBTA, Black Widow, and POTO Sunset Strip. I wouldn’t feed them an entire betta fish like that, I feed them chunks of LRS food which ends up being a lot of shrimp and scallops/clam
