Nem hitchhiker.. pluck him or name him?

Hey all, just cycling a new tank and I noticed not one, but two of these guys.

They look to be pretty soft, and when I touch them, they close up instantly.


Any ideas what they are? Thanks in advance!

First thought is Majano's, do they have any green tinge to them?

Most anemone's that 'pop up' in a tank tend to be invasive, so I'd remove. Just make sure to give a good read on the methods, as incorrect removal can actually cause them to spread quicker.

I didn't notice any sort of green on it, but my lights are currently off until I finish cycling (And then some). How fast do these sucker split, and can I leave it in there until I start thinking about coral later this summer?

They aren't always going to have a green tinge, but it's very common to see the green. They also sometimes have a bit of a bubble-tip kind of look to them.

I've never had them myself, and I'm told they aren't as quick spreading as aiptasia, but harder to eliminate.

I'd start addressing it now while numbers are lower and you don't need to resort to more drastic methods. Particularly if you're just starting the cycle and don't have livestock to disturb.

Get any affected rock out of the tank and deal with it outside your system. It won't cause issues with your cycle if a couple rocks are missing. With luck they won't pop up on other rock.

Alright, he was a bugger to get out. Ended up taking out the rock and chipping off a corner of it with him on it and into the trash he went.

Side note, noticed a sprig of Aiptasia this morning...dangit.

any aiptasia you cant chip off the rock, just take kalkwasser paste and put it on the polyp, then super glue over it to make sure its dead
