Nem smoking

I've read some people drop in carbon for a spawning incident. Not sure if it's needed. We've never had a spawning event.

Funny, when I saw the title, I pictured a Nem at night, under a street lamp. It was dressed in a black leather jacket and had a cigarette hangout of its mouth,

Great catch, these spawning events are not very long. Only happy animals spawn, so it must be in a great environment.

I watched my tuxedo urchin spawn a couple mornings ago. Poor thing only urchin in the tank.
One of my RFA's had about 40 babies a week or so ago, I have located about 17 of them in the sand and rocks.
I love seeing these things happen. I wish I didn't have to get rid of this tank.

Yup - spawning. Depending on how many you have in the tank and how long it lasts a water change and carbon is recommended. At one point I had 7 rose bubble tips in my 40 breeder so not a lot of water volume. One or two decided to spawn and before I knew it a few others joined in. Tank water quality turned to a cloudy white - like 2% milk sort of thing. 30 minutes later fish started to breath heavy and it started to take a turn for the worse.

Water change, about 50%, and carbon is what cleared it up. Had to document that one in case that happened while I was traveling. I do not believe the tank would have recovered. Any spawning event in home aquaria is a great thing to witness. Really. Just in some cases you have to be prepared with a quick remedy in case it gets to be too much.

I started with 1 RBTA and have 10. Not one spawning event from them, but they are prolific splitters. I think I prefer the splitting compared to the spawning after reading the previous post. My 2 little clowns love them all.

I thought about it with this one as my RFA's and Trochus snails were all spawning at the same time. Tank was very cloudy for a few hours but no ill effects seen.
