So I was feeding my quad or rainbow nem, i took my baster and gave it a piece of krill, but one of the tentacles got sticky with the baster and when i pulled away and left the krill in its tentacles, one stood on the baster and came off the nem….

The hem looks fine and ate the krill and is looking normal…
What happens with this tentacle? I attached it to a rock and its stuck there and either its flowing in the current or moving on its own.
So now there this is orange/red/green tentacle attached to a rock. It looks pretty cool.
Can anything come of this single tentacle?

No need to worry at all; I have had this happen dozens of times. I wouldn't worry about target feeding your nem either. I have been scuba diving all over the world and have yet to see Mermaids feeding nems krill with a turkey baster in the wild. I have never feed my nem in the last 2 yrs and it has split 8 times now.

Could lack of food be a possible reason for the nem to split?

The ocean has an abundance of food. Slightly more than our aquariums I would think and better quality food. :-)

Its dieing and more than likely gonna release nematocysts into the water. Id remove it if it were me.

I'm not exactly sure what will be released, but it's not gonna be Carbon or GFO. Lol

I would remove it. Doubtful one tent will spike the tank, but removing what you know will be excess waste is the best thing to do.

I just use the common sense approach to Reefing, and try my best to replicate what I typically see in nature. So far so good with my system, as far as color and health. Here is a pic of my nems / mixed reef for reference.

Well you're definetely doing a fine job! I can't get my GSP to spread like that. It's growing, but not at the rate I would like or that I think it's capable of. My monti is growing slow too. Yours looks great. My upgraded is under 6 months so that may be why. I am dosing the tank and the levels are on point, so I'm thinking here in the next few months it all should take off. Do you have any suggestions how to make GSP grow crazy like that. I'm trying to get some good color contrast. Did you start with a lot of frags and glue them all together on the back glass or what's the best way to do it?

I just started with one fist size rock of GSP 14 mths ago. It took over one whole rock within 3 mths and started jumping onto the back glass which spread like crazy. I bet I remove 2 sqft every month or so just trying to keep it in check. I bought that red monti cap about 12 mths ago which was about 3-4 inches now it around 14 inches. The tank was only started about 15mths ago. I don't run GFO, or Carbon, or Kalkwasser. I don't target feed. I only put in 1 cube of frozen food every other day if I remember. I dose as needed according to test. I would say it is a very basic set-up. I always keep my Cal about 430, Dkh between 9-10, PH 8.1-8.3 , 15 gal water-change every 2-3 weeks. I do have a Refugium set-up in the sump that's about it.

I run Carbon and GFO. My buddy doesn't. He gets a lot better growth, but my algae is under control and my water is very clear.

Maybe I should back off on the GFO for a bit and see how it does.

wow...your tank is beautiful...
