The word "nemo" in latin means something like "a nobody". In addition to the word play that you pointed out, it also has the saltwater connection to Captain Nemo from the works of Jules Verne. I enjoy how Pixar/Disney often makes multi-layered connections throughout their stories so they can relate on many different levels across a broad span of people. However, that doesn't mean that Nemo is even close to true to life because when Nemo's mom, Coral, was killed by the barracuda then Nemo's dad, Marlin, would have started transitioning to a female and Nemo as a juvenile clownfish and the only other clownfish in the harem/colony would have started transitioning to a male. Of course, I'm not sure that the general movie-going audience is ready for that at this point in US culture.

If nothing else, knowing that "nemo" is embedded in the word "anemone" then it can help get the spelling correct!

Interesting. I haven’t really watched the movie in its entirety. But I’ve read the book to my boys many times. Disney is good at those subtleties.
