neon basslet

Jimmy Fallon Hello GIF by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

welcome!

I've had several different dottys over the years and they have all been model citizens, usually more on the wimpy side. Currently have an indigo dotty with a royal gramma, african flameback angel. purple tang and a pair of clowns in a 75 gal. Been fine for several years. I've also kept them in a 40 gal with no issues.

Good point. My sand need a good deal of time to mature. Perhaps the neon will play nice with the clowns, cleaner wrasp, and dwarf flame angel I plan on getting. I can hold off on the gobi for some time and perhaps choose not to get one after all.
Clowns and Dottybacks.... not going to play nice. Sorry.

Welcome to Reef2Reef! I also have kept a variety of dottybacks in various sized setups with a wide variety of tankmates without issue, including neon, orchid, splendid, and sunrise dottybacks. Gorgeous fish. If this were my tank, I'd rearrange all the rockwork and feed well when adding a new smaller fish. In larger tanks, usually no issues at all, but you may see some nipping at first in a tank this size.

There may be some bumping, flashing or mouth displays.
If they “agree” to the hierarchy and territory, this is what brings together a happy family.

I would just give it a chance. Some of your fish are not nice anyways... my flame angel is a real jerk.

Welcome to R2R and the salty world. Some fish don’t get along well. More aggressive ones should be added later. Lots of advice given to give you some options. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.

Welcome.
Fish can have different personalities. I have had indigo dotties and now a sunrise and they are great! However, they are in my 210g. So plenty of room.
I have also had an electric in my 40g with clowns and no issues.
Just keep an eye on it. You can always take the dottyback out for a time out in an acclimation box. Let the others settle and let it back into the main display.

I think this one is going to be a little brat. I put a urchin in last night and watched him get stung 3 times before he got the idea. Poor little guy. Was like watching a kid put a bobby pin in a light socket over and over again to make sure it zapped him. LOL
I think I will watch him as I add other fish and if he misbehaves I'll put him in a time out tank for a bit as you suggest. He is such a pretty fish. And quit friendly to me. He even comes to the glass to say hi to my cat when she peers inside. I think hes trying to figure out if she tastes good
