so I have a 90 as my DT that is currently fallow because of ick. My question is I have these 2 fish in different tanks but want to put them both in my 90. Everything I read is that it is best to keep one of that family per tank. I will be adding them at the same time do y'all think they will do fine? Here is a picture of the 2 fish in question.

Maybe, maybe not. Neon dottybacks aren't that bad as far as aggression and if added simultaneously they should just stake out separate territories. However, purple pseudos can be quite nasty to congenerics, so anything can happen.

That's what I have read. The purple is my daughters favorite fish so has to be in there. Might just leave the neon in my 29.

I don't know if it's possible, but if you could consider a fridmani dottyback, similar color, alot less attitude.

@Diesel this thread seems to imply that larger groups might somewhat successfully diffuse aggression like we talked about

To an ectent that could work, but their are a few tiers of dottyback aggression. Some being pretty peaceful, others moderate aggression, some very aggressive. I would recommend sticking with species on the same tier of aggression and adding them simultaneously.

I've read that neons aren't that bad but mine was satan even kicked the snot out of my 6 year old fire clown female in her anemone!

Everyone also says purple are evil but mine have never showed any aggression at all!

Probably variance in species but it is interesting. I have only had one neon and it was for a brief two years, I've had a dozen or more purple and orchid, mostly purple. No difference in temperament that I've seen despite what is said. The orchid was a bit more cryptic but neither was remotely aggressive

There may be degree of variance between specimens within a species, but IME most of them stay within the aggression level described about them.

After sixline wrasses, the fish I have had to remove the most were purple dottybacks. They have also caused some of the most problems with other fish in retail tanks.

I have to agree that purple pseudos can be nasty towards smaller or similar fish. I might try some purple pseudos in my big tanks as there will be more space. Royal gammas are a little more peaceful and I kept 3 of them in my 120gallon tank. They all had a spot picked out and aggression was minimal just some chasing on occasion. I am tempted to try the same thing with purple pseudos. I have the feeling the pairing you are looking at might fail unless there is a third fish added that can diffuse the aggression. Either way it is a risk.

It's hit or miss... I have kept multiples, in the past, before and done ok. Right now the only basslet/dottyback I have is a purple psuedo who is actually quite peaceful but he has his spot and is very territorial. As long as fish stay out of his space he's good but even then the most he does is run intruders off. In the past though I have had them not like even royal gramma's and go after them. Generally speaking if you have adequate space they should be fine.

Thats not true. I successfully kept multiples in the same tank..small tanks at that. I had a springeri and neon in a 16 gallon. I added them both at the same time and they never touched each other.
are you sure,cause i already have a neon,now i want another springeri
