NeoNitro dose?

I do not know the potency of neonitro as I do not think the web site gives that info.

I'd use this calculator and the entry of nitrate from potassium nitrate. It will give a slight (23%) underestimate to the boost of nitrate added, but you will determine the final dose by trial and error anyway and its a fine starting point.

Ok so if I am making Calcium Nitrate solution, I just put Potassium Nitrate into the calculator to be clear since they don’t have Calcium Nitrate as an option? That’s where the 23% discrepancy comes from I'm guessing?

Also, in your previous post you mentioned this from Brightwell website for NeoNitro dosing:

"1 ml NEONITRO will increase the nitrate concentration in 1 US-gallon (~3.8 L) by ~5 ppm; "

Is this not sufficient to figure out dose of Calcium Nitrate that is equal to NeoNitro?

Thank you!

Ok so using that calculator I tried to figure out a solution similar to NeoNitro. Am I using this right lol?

If I put 1g for tank volume, 1ml, and .0309g, that will get 5ppm increase. So if I make a solution of 1000ml, I’d need 30.09g of Calcium Nitrate?

Or to compare to NeoNitro, since 2L of NeoNitro is $25, this would come out to 60.18g of Calcium Nitrate to make 2L equivalent solution, which is about $4-$5. So I guess about 5-6x cheaper. Definitely cheaper but not as great as the cost savings for NeoPhos vs Trisodium Phosphate which is over 100x cheaper. Just want to double check my math is right, because I have no idea what I’m doing lol.

Just trying to get in the ballpark so I don’t have major drop or increase when I switch over lol. I can adjust from there with trial and error as you said. :)

That looks close to what I have.

Ok, so I’m doing neonitro and after adding some the nitrite suddenly went up also? Is this normal? At least it’s reading it on a nitrite test and nitrate test.

How much of a nitrite rise? It's isn't normal for nitrate dosing, but I do not know what purity Brightwell uses since they do not mention it.

API. It’s been very accurate and I trust API have for many years. The reading was 5ppm nitrate .25ppm nitrite 0 ammonia.

I was asking because different nitrate kits have different degrees of nitrate interference. I do not recall the interference degree for API.

I recently started using NeoNitro and noticed the same thing. My nitrites increased from 0 to about 0.05. Ammonia level was also 0

I’d ignore it, whether it is real or not. :)
