Good evening all-

I have been trying to raise my phosphates from 0 (Hanna 713-buying a 736 soon) to .02 by feeding heavily and completely stopping the photoperiod for my chaeto over the past week. Haven’t been able to get any detectable phosphate. I have a minimal bio load- 2 clowns, two cleaner shrimp, 3 urchins and about 5 snails. System is a 40b with SPS and LPS, much more LPS than SPS.

As such, I purchased some NeoPhos. The new bottle has a simple formula to determine the dosage required, however, after following that dosage, and retesting morning, I’m still undetectable.

Through research, I’ve learned that the phosphorus can bind to the calcium found in my aragonite substrate, and not much actually becomes available in the water column.

One reason this is important to me is I am beginning to see what I believe are Dino’s, so I don’t want to allow the phosphate levels to remain 0 for much longer.

What is the better approach, adding enough to get my desired reading, or, dose the recommended amount once, or several times a day and waiting it out?

Is it possible it is being used too rapidly? I just started neophos myself but I need a better test kit to determine if its working.

It’s very possible! Considered that as well. I did test about 30 min after dosing hoping to catch some before the coals and algae did, but no luck.

It could always be a test kit having problems so you could always try that. I would try and raise it higher and see if you notice a problem. Maybe try somewhere between 0.05 and 0.1. Nothing in that range would cause you any sort of problem.
