@mods. In the past before the saltwater hobby I built Honda’s and purchased a lot of parts from various Honda forums. One thing that was mandatory in the for sale thread was make every new post have a sign with the members forum name and date of the ad. It didn’t prevent all the scams but made it a little harder for them.

I’ve seen car forums and on eBay have username and date shown with picture of item being sold to confirm it’s legit and the seller is really trying to sell item

I recently purchased an item and the request for paying through family and friends was made by the seller to save a few bucks. I declined but ended up buying the item and paying regularly and had no issues. Scams like this make me hesitant about buying stuff on the forum. Same thing has happened on Craigslist and now I won't buy or sell anything on that site.
