hoping to pick everyone’s mind. I have a atk unit that I use to top off my tank with lime water. I believe it’s causing a film to form over the lower optical sensor and it’s causing the sensor to read closed all the time. When I go and whipe the sensor with a wet towel it kicks on. Has anyone had similar experiences with Kalk and optical sensors ?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I had a little problem with that. Do you use a sump? If you are using a sump, do you have your ATO fill into the return pump section? I was able to fix my issue by directing my ATO water into my skimmer section. Not directing the ATO water into the return section also reduces splashing/waves and helps the system work more accurately imo.

I know exactly what you mean. I have the same issue with the optical sensors in the DOS. I have no solution except to ignore the optical sensors. For ATO I would recommend float switches (I have dual float switches....one is hardwired to the ATO pump and the other to Apex, where I have a defer statement before activating the ATO pump).
