Neptune Conductivity/Salinity Probe - Yay or Nay?

Just curious about people’s thoughts on its effectiveness, accuracy and durability/shelf life. Thanks for your time

Overall a yes for me ..... though not without it’s frustrations. I don’t use it to control anything, but find it to be a useful monitor of salinity levels. Probe can be a major pain to calibrate and is highly sensitive to bubbles or fouling. You need to find the right spot for it.

I had one and was very dissatisfied as ca1ore says. Id much rather buy an orion conductivity tester for 300 bucks. Or pinpoint conductivity for 100. Just consider its a lot of money for something that doesnt work like you'd expect.

I’m happy with mine - been running solid now for 2 years. Initially it took me some time playing with temperature calibration to remove swings, but after that all good. I do recommend re-calibrating after it’s been in the tank a couple of months, as do lots of other folk.

I’m not sure how accurate it is, but precision seems pretty good. By that I mean that I am not sure if it’s reading of 36 ppt is the right number, but that number doesn’t vary much and when it does my refractometer agrees with the change. It’s the trend and changes that are important to me, not the absolute number, so this works fiine.
