R2R,

I have a 131 Gallon DT with a 40 Gallon sump. I have the Neptune Cor 20 return pump but have no idea what % to run the return pump at.

I had someone else install the tank over 2 years ago and noticed they had it set to 12% for the COR POWER amount. I recently did the calibration test and have increased it to 32% as I figure the more the water can turnover throughout the filtration the better?

Trying to gather some opinions from the experts on what most people run the Neptune Cor 20 Pumps at % power wise and why?

Thanks!!

I have two Cor 20 pumps on my 120. One powers a manifold running my carbon chamber, UV, and a small frag tank before returning to the tank. Set at 33% minimum speed and 83% maximum speed. Runs at 100%. The second Cor is a straight return set at 11%/50% min/max speed running at 100%.

So for the COR 20 return pump how do you decide the speed from 11%/50% that
it runs?

I set the minimum so that the pump runs slowly during feed rather than "breaking syphon" so to speak and restarting shooting sump grunge into the tank. Top speed I just did it low tech by putting my hand In front of the return nozzle in the tank and checking the flow in the return section of the sump. I have a flow meter on the UV that helps. I think Randy on BRS had a video on the cor pumps.

I may need to check it out, I figure you want the most amount of return up and down as possible without causing problems.

I haven’t really looked into it until now.

Bump -

Anyone else have input or recommendations for best speed to run return pump COR 20 with 171 gallons of total water, 41 of that being in the sump.

You could probably do some math. Check the pump specs online somewhere and see what it pumps per hour and then what is recommended for flow and see what percentage it needs to be. Then try it and see if you like it. Also you can just set it to a percentage and if it doesnt seem like too much then up it, if still not too much then up some more until you like it. Also I assume you have a gate valve on your drain, yould open it all the way then close it about 20% or so and then set the pump to a speed where the drain doesnt gurgle.

As much flow as your overflow can handle as long as you can tolerate the noise at that level and your critters like it.

This. Wind it up and as soon as it exceeds your drains flow rate (sump level starts to drop) back off.

Thanks for the replies and advice! Going to step her up and give this SOB some more power!
