Neptune sales?

I’ve noticed the same. Could be the increase of DIY controller like Reef-Pi leading users to a more affordable, flexible option.

Neptune is a good controller for those who want plug and play, though it leaves a lot to be desired for others who want a specific solution such as myself.

When you are the most popular and outsell every other controller by a hundredfold, you will see a lot of them up for sale. They hold their value well so they are often some of the first things to go up for sale when someone is selling off a tank or leaving the hobby.

It is like saying I see a lot of Honda Civics for sale around me. Is there something wrong with them? No. There are just more in the market so you see it.

Most of the things that Neptune makes are for newer or leading/bleeding edge type of reefers. This stuff is always for sale more than stuff that long-term reefers use.

I am not saying that a long term reefer does not use an Apex or Trident or whatever, but if they do, they keep it. I am more referring to how you hardly ever see much Tunze stuff up for sale since when people buy it, they tend to keep it.

They also sell a lot of things that nobody NEEDs - wants get sold more than needs. When Trident was all the rage, I had a couple friends on waitlists and all four or five of them have since sold their Tridents since they didn't turn out like they wanted and they don't NEED to have them.

BTW - this is totally fair to ask. People started asking with Vertex stuff and they were out of business not long after. I this case, there is probably nothing to worry about.

I know there are a lot of people not thrilled with Neptune, but up until GHL and now Coralvue getting involved in controllers, there was really no other option.

If someone ever brings back the old DA Reefkeeper Neptune is in trouble (BRS talked about the desire to do this years ago but not likely now since they and Neptune fall under the same corporate umbrella)

I don’t think it’s necessarily anything wrong with Neptune but more so people looking to try other brands. On my next tank I’ll probably switch to a Hydros. Apex does have some QC issues but for the most part it’s nothing outrageous. I’ve had two different Apex models and plenty of products run without issues. Like someone mentioned above, they have been the most popular controller so it makes sense to see more of their stuff up for sale
