Neptune trident

What's required to calibrate it? Extra costs involved? A standards solution needed?
Lol most likely. I recall jim welsh explaining his alk monitor used a ph probe. So it could be something different aswell

To me this seems like an awesome product. Seems weird it wouldn't actually control anything, just monitor, given the Neptune Sysrems is all about " control".
I mean if you have the apex dos =) lol hopefully programming would be compatible with its dosing pump. That would be great

Just seems like a lot to go through to just test alkalinity and calcium. Magnesium as we all know hardly moves month to month.

I was talking to someone before about the mag, if i had to buy reagent for it. I would program my testing until the day the bottle expired. Prob around 2 3 test a month

I agree with you,but the point automation of a system like this is consistency and automation.

Do you have the time/energy/effort to check those parameters multiple times and day?
I mean, my alk only needs checking twice a week, my Ca once a week and Mg about once or twice a month....

I use BRS pumps for dosing and just ordered a DOS to set up automatic water change of 2.5g a day.

If you already own all the modules, literally the only thing the new system gives you is individual outlet power drawl.

If I could just but the new computer for less (I don't need new probes abd I already own two backwards compatible EB8s) then that would be a viable upgrade path...... I could get an EB832 a little later on then..... (and have enough crap left over to run 2.5 tanks).

Otherwise I'm spending $800 on outlet monitoring, extra probes, and redundancy in 1link and salinity outlets I already own....

I don't understand the classic not compatible being a problem. If you think about it, the 1st iPhone was what $500 and each version iPhone after had options that wasn't backwards compatible and was more expensive. Whenever the new version was coming out people would line up outside stores to buy them. Eventually you'll get to a point where engineering will stop designing features for an older unit because it will cost twice as much to write code for two different processors and they'll also lose the ability to sell their newer version. I know I'm going to get backlash form a lot of people but I do understand their position.

At 500 dollars plus cost of reagent , I am wondering if it would be more cost effective to create a system with an automatic water change. I understand that it would require more space and equipment but the initial costs appears to be less than 500.

so if i'm understanding this when integrated with the DOS (which is what I was hoping that all this integration was about) if you set say the alk to 7.5 and added a few frags over the week, if you do a daily alk test and it comes up short at say 7.2, it will talk to the dose and tell it to adjust it's dosage to bring it back to the desired 7.5....all by itself!

my only question now is.....what if you are dosing something like triton that requires equal dosing of 4 bottles.... does it send the single to the other dos heads to dose the same amount?

I do have the DOS/DDR. Hopefully it's compatable!
Lol once i hear those words, im selling my old apex. It would be very very wise to make programming compatible with the dos. Im sure theyve thought this through, so im all ears for now!

Some people (including myself) just dont want to change anything, especially when ive relied on all my apex systems for years now. Best piece of equipment ive bought so far. Its innovation, it happens. It would be nice for it to work with the classic controller, considering theres most likely more people with the classic then the newer apex.
