Hi all,

Me again sorry. Looking for opinions on the Neptune wav pumps, and would like to hear from who has used them.

Am planning on using them for a 3ft drop off aquarium

I had them on my tank and they lasted just till the warranty ran out then stopped working. I sent them in for diagnostics and was told they could not be repaired and I could buy replacements at 50% off.

Early models had reliability issues and would short out. There was apparently a running modification of the impellar assembly which seems to have fixed failures. Any mechanical device will eventually fail, of course, but these now seem like a good option.

I would say they may be a little too powerful for a 3ft tank. You'd have to run them at a pretty low %.

Does this still seem to be the case. I'm looking to upgrade 2 of my pumps on my 220 and would love to use the wavs as I believe I can plug them right into my Apex eb832. There are a LOT of threads regarding pump failure right around the two year mark though, so i'm a little nervous clicking the "Buy Now" button. Two high flow fully controllable pumps for $350 seems like a great deal compared to the expensive yet popular Vortec or super reliable Tunze pumps.

Dunno, I actually stopped using them.

I have been using two of them for about 8 months now.....no issues. They do seem to have to be cleaned more often than pumps that I have used in the past otherwise they lose power quickly. They are extremely strong water movers.

I've had two in my tank since the start...one stopped working within the warranty...another 3 years in and they replaced it at 50%off ....Very happy with them in general but now I'm only using one and have placed 2 Nero s to replace the second

Both of mine broke after the one year mark. They offered the same 50% off they gave authentic but I opted to purchase Vortech to replace. I would rather buy something that’s going to last than spend my money on something that I’m going to have to replace every year. The WAV pumps appear to have just over a year lifespan based on all the reviews I’ve seen.

That seems to be consistently the case. When did you buy them? The earlier post suggested that Neptune recently made changes to the impeller design. That’s one of I was considering the wav.

I bought mine in 2016. They were declared unrepairable by Neptune in 2017 and I’ve been running Vortechs since then with zero issues.

I have 16 of them in use since November 2017. One went goofy very quickly and had to be replaced, the other 15 have been rockstars.

Just to provide another opinion I really believe it is luck of the draw with these pumps and other pumps for that matter. Will say though I have had the same mp40s for close to 6 years and they babe never failed. I really believe it is how often you clean these pumps. If it was a 75 dollar jaebo I probably wouldnt clean it as often, but 350 for two wave or 1 mp40 i would be cleaning it once a month.
