was thinking of purchasing a Neptune wave starter kit but after reading about all the issues not so sure. most of the post seem to be older from 2014. are they still having the same issues or have they made changes to the initial design? looking to get more out of the pump then just 2 years

Well I just picked up a pair and love them, as for their performance after 2 years hit me up in 2020 lol. I had the same concern at first but also noticed the vast majority of complaints were old.

I've been running a set for 6 months. They do provide really good flow. One of mine shorted out, but Neptune sent me a replacement.

Im over 2 years with my set and I did have an issue with the the pumps simply failing to work (not at the same time and well over a year into their service) upon restart. For both pumps, Neptune had me send them in and sent me replacements back. Even after the warranty was over. I have no complaints. :D

I'm going on two years with my pair of WAVs with no complaints. I'm even considering adding a second pair...

That said, I never did figure out how to synchronize their ebb and flow with the ebb and flow of non-WAV but Apex controllable pumps (like Tunze, Sicce X-Stream and Jebao). I'm a victim of Jacques Cousteau's 60's & 70's TV series ("The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau") where you'd see a large undersea Ritteri bend to the left for a while and then bend to the right for a while and then bend... yada, yada. I've only seen an anemone ebb and flow back and forth in an aquarium one time. That was at the Mystic Aquarium in Stonington, Connecticut, where they developed a way to do it with a large wooden paddle and a one horse power electric motor that were both hidden from view. (And, that was so long ago that I don't remember if it was Richard Segedi or Stephen Spotte who gave me the behind-the-scenes tour.)

"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."

I personally like Ecotech Marine MP40 better just because of the ease of cleaning. It is much easier to just remove the wet side and not have to unplug everything. In my humble opinion.

I agree cleaning is more difficult then MP10 since I switch to WAV but no more difficult then any other pump besides the Ecotechs. I turn them off and put the whole thing in vinegar and water container big enough to fit. I have found it a bit more difficult to create a programmed standing wave over what the MP10s I had but I have not taken the time to fine tune them. Over all they configure very similar to the Ecotechs for almost half the cost. I purchased mine used and so far no problems after 4 months use running them as high as 60%

Last month one of my Wav pumps stopped working for no apparent reason. Neptune System's tech dept could not revive the pump remotely. They simply said, "Sorry, its past the 1 year warranty". Today I lost the second pump also. Now I'm sitting here with two bad powerheads and out of $500.

Update: Just thought I'd update my situation with my Wav pumps. I sent both Wav pumps back to Neptune Systems for diagnostic/repair on Friday 6/22. To my surprise, I was called today (Tuesday 6/26) from a service manager from Neptune Systems with the results from their tests. Talk about fast! They must have tossed them on the workbench the same day they received them from USPS.
They found both pumps failed for the same reason and took full responsibility for it. He informed me both pumps will be replaced and shipped out to me right away. Can't get any better customer service than that! And in my opinion, the pumps are only half the purchase. The other half is how a company responds to problems with their product. In this case Neptune Systems stepped up to the plate and took care of their customer...me.

I haven’t had any issues in 2 years, I had 3, sold 1 and added a mp40 to have a battery backup as well as a different flow pattern. The wavs are hard to clean but I like how they can be angled and they are very powerful!

It's almost 2 years later.... how are they working for you?

How difficult to clean are they?

If anyone needs one of the impeller tools feel free to pm me. I can print them in a matter of hours
