Neptunes Palythoa. Very large paly, about the size of quarters. This picture is taken just one day after receiving them.

They have these super long stems, maybe 3 inches. They're so tall that I couldn't place them in my frag rack but in the substrate.

Very nice pick-up.

The "Name Game" is getting interesting.
It sure seems that everyone has there own name.

People Eaters
Are becoming my Favorite.

Yeah, I think they are Ding Dangs. Some say you cannot call them that unless you know if they came from the original stock of zoas/palys. So, companies call them other stuff so as not to get embroiled in a name fight with consumers.

Guys... PEs are not Palythoas. They hold the Genus of Zoanthus and the Species of Zoanthus Gigantus.

I guess your right, I've always called them palythoa but according to the ficklefins r2r article they're zoanthus gigantus, r2r spotlight: "people eaters" (PE), outside sources seem to be difficult but the comparitive toxicogenomics database lists them as a the dna barcode, zoanthus gigantus but unfortunately they're no pictures.

It's a common mistake by many... There are many mistakes seeing the taxonomy of zoas isn't as cut and dry as other corals. Most are just grouped in Zoanthus Sp.

Another one is "Pillow Zoanthids" which are actually Palythoa Caesia.

James Reimer (one of the people responsible for classifying PE's as Z. gigantus) has a photo album on zoaid/Coralpedia with some pics. I'd venture a guess that the vast majority of 'Paly's' are actually Zoanthus sp. Size means mothing in the classification, despite common naming practices.
