Nero 3 mod to 5?

I managed to get ahold of part of a nero 5 from a friend. I only have the pump itself, not the controller and power supply part. However, believe (based on visual inspection only) that the connector that connects the pump to the circuit board is a shared component, which means that at least physically, I should be able to connect the pump to the controller. My only question is whether the actual circuitry/ hardware differs, or whether the loaded program differs. If I were to replace the nero 3 pump component with the 5, would it work (or burn out the circuit)? And if it would work, would I be left with a full nero 5 or an underpowered frankenstein?
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know.

I believe the controllers are identical. The Nero 3 is 20W and the Nero 5 30W, so there's no a huge difference in power requirements.
